On January 23, 2015, Geoff Young won the Kentucky Press Forum. In spite of there being 30 reporters in the room, only one person wrote anything about it. On Twitter.
This last Tuesday, at the Realtor's Forum on February 3, 2015, Young finished the forum by slamming all 4 Republican candidates who just spoke before him, thusly, taking home the crown.
At the Disabilities Forum in Frankfort
on February 5, 2015, Geoff Young offered intelligent, thoughtful, and
novel solutions to Kentucky's problems. With Young's deep
understanding of the issues, and a passion for uplifting and
elevating Kentucky, Young's Presidential qualities outshined all of
the rest.
Currently, there's 874,000 disabled
people in Kentucky, which represents Kentucky's biggest “minority”.
The Forum started and ended
beautifully. In the beginning, a disabled woman passionately gave her
plea that helping her to achieve was a good investment. At the end, a
disabled boy sang “My Ole Kentucky Home” angelically.
James Comer's Lieutenant Governor was
there, and he said a few words before going back to the Statehouse to
possibly pass some laws for this year's Summer camp at Frankfort. The
state legislature has to work on stuff for about a month, and then
they recess until the real work of passing a budget is accomplished
next year (biennially), which also usually takes about a month.
Sometimes, we have government representatives who work two months out
of the year, but that's rare.
Will T. Scott and Geoff Young were two
dueling candidates, going back and forth, intermittently, answering
different questions, asked of them by the moderators. Both of the
candidates honed their message to fit the forum about disabilities.
Will T. Scott, an ex-Supreme Court
Justice, told Kentucky that he loved us all. It was a nice feeling.
Will T. Scott is Kentucky, through and through, and he's a Populist.
Will T. Scott speaks the best out of all of the candidates. At the
Realtor's Forum, Scott didn't use the microphone or the podium. He
captured our attention by his disposition, the forcefulness of his
nature. He puts on a compelling spectacle. Scott speaks from the
heart, and is thoroughly, through and through, a Kentuckian. Will T.
Scott has a 55 page economic plan written, and up on his website, for
the world to see. He's the only one I know of with a plan for a
Kentucky. I'm sure it's worth taking a glimpse at. It may be where
Kentucky is heading in the next 4 years. 55 pages is a bunch of
pages.
Geoff Young, an ex-environmental state
worker—Kentucky's version of a mixture between Noam Chomsky and
Fred Tuttle—told Kentucky that the biggest problem facing us is the
Republican Class War.
Will T. Scott quoted some scripture.
“Jesus said, 'that what you do the least of my brethren, you do
unto me.'”
Geoff Young said that Kentucky's
economic forecast was in danger of being a 3rd world
country, like in Central America, alluding to the Banana Republics.
Will T. Scott wants to climb the top of
a mountain with Kentuckians, and we all need to get there together.
Will T. Scott kept referring to Kentucky's “bucket, that's
leaking”, and how us Kentuckians need to help Scott fix the leaking
bucket. Geoff Young said that Scott wanted to drill the hole in the
bucket bigger.
Will T. Scott didn't say if he would
cut Medicaid or not, though he did mention that there's $800 million
dollar shortfall for Kentucky's Medicaid this year.
Young believed that Rand Paul and Mitch
McConnell would filibuster the ADA (The Americans with Disabilities
Act https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3l7A8VBrqa8)
to death if it were a bill introduced to today's Congress.
Young said that in the headlines that
morning (2-5-15), the Republicans tried to shut ObamaCare down for
the 56th time. Geoff Young said that passing ObamaCare in
Kentucky was the most courageous things Steve Beshear did during his
administration. Young wanted the public option, of expanding
ObamaCare, especially since Kynect has been such a huge success (over
600,000 signed up last year). Young is in favor of single-payer
healthcare. Geoff Young said he would cut out waste in the
government. Young said he wants Kentucky to have a single-payer
healthcare system, since “healthcare is a human right”.
Geoff Young said the ideology of the
Republican Party is his real opponent, not Jack Conway. Young said he
couldn't tell the difference between all of the Republicans with a
microscope.
Geoff Young said he would tax the rich,
particularly the 1%. Young also said that the Unions would put more
money in the pockets of the middle, working, and poor classes—the
99%—of Kentucky. Young said that the 3 biggest special interests
that the Republican party served were the “super-rich, the
ultra-super rich, and billionaires”.
Will T. Scott spoke briefly about his
economic plan he's laid out for Kentucky. While it's hard to
distinguish if his plan holds muster, it's important that he at least
has a plan. Scott is light years in front of the other monied
candidates.
Will T. Scott said he supported
expanding background checks of caregivers for the disabled.
Both Scott and Young agree that the
Sale Tax is a regressive tax, which means it hits the poor, working,
and middle classes the hardest.
Will T. Scott said that being a
Democrat or a Republican didn't matter, because the economic problems
in Kentucky were created by Paul Patton and Steve Beshear, both
Democratic Governors.
Will T. Scott's mother died last
September.
On Brain Injuries, Young pointed out
that there were 1 million disabled combat vets of the Iraq War in
America. Because of Jack Conway's immoral position on Iraq for 8
years, Young leveled Conway to be “unfit” to lead, due to Jack's
lack of moral clarity on the Iraq War.
Rand Paul is opposed to the ADA (The
American Disabilities Act).
On the War on Drugs, Young said he was
opposed to it. Young was in favor of increased funding for drug
addicts, but believed addiction was a public health issue, not a
criminal issue. Will T. Scott said that he too, was focused on the
treatment of addicts, but pointed out that his legacy was creating
Drug Courts, and he wants to expand those courts to include
juveniles. Will T. Scott also said that the State should pay for
families who turn on their own, who out one of their own members of
being addicts, or mentally insane, to be faced with criminal
restrictions. While this law is currently in place, the biggest
impediment of it's implementation, is that the families who lynch
their own, also have to pay for the rehabilitation. It seems that
some families seem to only care enough to turn on themselves, but few
care enough to pay to fix the problem.
Will T. Scott said that Kentucky was in
debt $34 Billion. I've read $45 and $86 Billion dollars, so Will T.
Scott's quote sounds much smaller.
Kentucky's GDP is $171B, and if
Kentucky were to take the debt-to-GDP ratio that Japan has, then we
could have debt over $342B, and still be able to balance our budget.
$34B is manageable.
Will T. Scott mentioned that he was a
trial lawyer, and he made some company fix some water problems. Will
T. Scott got his life lessons from the school of hard knocks, not a
degree from Massachusetts.
Unions are players in the free market
too.
